Beginners Guide to Crystals

Posted by Amber Newton on

Hey everyone! Amber here bringing you our very first blog! We felt that making a "beginners guide to crystals" would be a good start so you can understand and care for your new little friends. "Little friends" that weird? HaHa! That's exactly how I look at them. Sayb and I both treat our rocks or crystals as companions. We carry them in our pockets, sit them by our beds, we have even snuck some into work at our full time job to help everyone have good vibes. So here's a little bit of information to get started.

What can I use crystals for?

Everything! Okay, not everything. No matter how many crystals I have in my pocket, the dishes and laundry still seem to pile up. You can, however, use them to help fight anxiety or depression. (If your depression is bad, go talk to someone. We should not rely on rocks alone.) They can help bring you a calm mindset. I use them in my meditation all the time. They can help with strengthening your intuition and focus and can also help banish negative energy. Some believe (and I am one of them) that they can help with physical ailments as well. Some legends reflected beliefs that wearing amethyst prevented drunkenness! There are also crystals to help balance each chakra within your body. I sometimes put a crystal in my moon water to enhance its properties. Put a rose quartz in there and water your plants to give them extra love. Just make sure you research first because some crystals can be toxic in certain situations. Each crystal has a set of "uses" but they are all amazing and helpful.

How to use crystals

Like I said before, put them in your pocket! Carry them everywhere. Place them around your house where you can see them. Hold them in your hand. Put them under your pillow while you sleep. Wear them! Use them in meditation or prayer. There are so many uses. I'm getting excited just talking about it all!

How to cleanse your crystal

When I speak of cleansing, I am mostly talking about energetically. We carry these little guys around and they are working hard to protect us from negativity or balance us in some way. We need to take care of them so they can take care of us. Most crystals can be cleansed with water. There are some that should not get wet, so before cleansing any of your crystals, make sure you research so you don't hurt them. You can set them under the moon light. You can use the vibrational sounds of a singing bowl. You can bury them in the dirt. I suggest using a house plant because they have been known to wander off when buried outside. Is it fairies or just curious little crystals? I haven't decided but to be safe, I bury them in my house plants. Some of them can also be cleansed under the sun. Much like the water cleansing, do your research. Some crystals, such as Amethyst, can fade in the sun. You can also use smoke to cleanse them. Light up some incense or whatever you normally use to cleanse your space and watch the smoke carry all the negativity away.

There is so much you can do with crystals that I haven't even mentioned. I could talk all day about all the benefits but instead I will bring this to a close. I hope you love the crystals you get in your candles and your love for them grows. If you're anything like us, you will have rocks laying around random places within your space. Crystals are amazing little creations given to us from this beautiful Earth we call home. Let's take care of her (Earth), each other and ourselves.

"You cannot get through a single day without having an impact on the world around you. What you do makes a difference and you have to decide what kind of difference you want to make."  -Jane Goodall

  • Ugh they’re not going to do my dishes? So rude.
Seriously, though. Thank you for this! I am not new to crystals, but I didn’t know I could cleanse them with dirt or smoke! I always forget to stick them out on the full moon so this is very helpful!
